Three MLAs will meet with the Lloydminster Concerned Citizens for Seniors Care on Wednesday, June 18 to discuss the need to replace the Jubilee Home.
At the AGM for the Concerned Citizens, outgoing president, Graham Brown announced that the meeting was on the schedule with MLAs Colleen Young, James Thorsteinson and Kim Gartner. Constituents from the ridings represented by those MLAs are in the catchment area of the Jubilee Home and will stand to benefit from the proposed 180 bed replacement.
Colleen Young, who attended the meeting said that she continues to advocate for the Jubilee Home replacement, a hospice and other levels of care for seniors.
“I think that replacing the Jubilee Home, adding the number of beds that are needed over the long term future of our community, because it does serve not only Lloydminster but the surrounding area. I think that need ahs been recognized for a number of years now.”
Young says the need has considerably grown even as she continues to advocate given the challenges.
“Governments have priorities. Infrastructure needs are tremendous in many categories not just in long term care. You just have to keep advocating for your community and trying to get to the top of the list.”
The Concerned Seniors have been leading a letter writing campaign and have over 3,000 signatures and counting. Young says the group wants to personally deliver the letters to the Saskatchewan health minister.
The three MLAs represent the ridings of Lloydminster, Cut Knife Turtleford and Kindersley Biggar which includes the Unity area.
