Topsoil moisture increases with welcomed rain

Rainfall significantly increased topsoil moisture across Saskatchewan for the period June 17-23, giving producers a helping hand to the growing season.

The Macklin area received the highest rainfall, at 108 millimeters (mm) recorded for the past week, followed by the Wilkie area at 107 mm.

From Glaslyn through Maidstone and St. Walburg, the welcomed rain has moved crop development to a more normal stage for this time of year, according to the province.

Crop development in the Northwestern Saskatchewan, which includes areas just east of Lloydminster, shows spring cereals ahead at 31 per cent.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
