Search ongoing for armed sub shop bandit

The investigation into the robbery of the local Subway is ongoing, according to police.

Members of the Lloydminster RCMP were called to the scene of an armed robbery on Thursday night. A masked man, armed with a knife, had entered the business and demanded cash from the till. He was successful in obtaining the money, but was soon chased from the sandwich shop by employees. Nearby police officers were able to pursue the thief into the neighborhood north of the restaurant.

Once police had determined a likely area for the thief to be hiding, they set up a perimeter in the area, with cruisers blocking the roadway and at least one armed officer stopping vehicles to ask their destinations.

As of Friday afternoon, the search for the suspect in the robbery was still ongoing by police.

According to Corporal Mike Dunsmore, who spoke for the Lloydminster RCMP, a track linked to the thief leading northeast was followed by the police dog after the robbery. However, the suspect was not located. The investigation is now focusing on the surveillance footage from the business.

Dunsmore also said a second action involving the police dog took place shortly after the robbery complaint, during which a driver and passenger were taken into custody following a failure to stop when pulled over by a police cruiser.

If anyone has information about the robbery, they can contact the local detachment, or Crimestoppers.
