Mentally ill man arrested in Cold Lake

Today, police received a call of a man reportedly pointing a long-barrel firearm at people in their vehicles.

Around 6 o’clock this morning, in Cold Lake North near the hospital, police were dispatched to the scene and shortly thereafter apprehended the suspect.

At 6:30 a.m. RCMP who negotiated his surrender. The 29-year-old man from Big Island Lake is in custody at Cold Lake Detachment, facing several firearms related offences.

A loaded long barrel firearm was seized in relation to the investigation. No shots were fired and no one was injured during the incident.

Cold Lake RCMP thank the public for their patience during this stand off. Anyone affected by this incident is encouraged to call the Cold Lake RCMP to speak with Victim Services at 780-594-3302.
