Dog attacked and killed in Vermilion Provincial Park

A woman has lost her poodle in a vicious attack by another dog.

According to the police report, last night at approximately 7:15 p.m. a 70-year-old woman was walking her small poodle in the Provincial Park, just north off the Park Drive residential area, when a larger dog came up the pathway and attacked her dog.

The other canine is described as a yellow lab or retriever-type dog.

The woman tried to defend her dog for several minutes before a man came up from the path and took control of the dog. A second man, walking a brindle-coloured boxer-type dog, also arrived on scene shortly after. It appeared that the men were known to one another and had been in the park together. They left without providing any assistance to the women or her dog.

The pair are described as white men in their late 20s or early 30s. Police believe that it may be that the males were unaware of the extent of the injuries to the poodle.

The Vermilion RCMP would like to speak with the two men involved in this incident. Investigators are asking anyone who may have information regarding this incident to contact Vermilion RCMP at 780-853-4441, or if you wish to remain anonymous, you can provide a tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
