Wish granted for Tianna Crookedneck

A young resident of Onion Lake Cree Nation will be headed to Disney World this December.

On Friday, Tianna Rae Crookedneck came to the Lloydminster Native Friendship Centre with her family. Crookedneck didn’t know that she would be getting her wish to head down to Florida granted the same day, which she found out after Leanne Hawes, the local wish grantor for Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta, told her she would be getting the trip.

It was Crookedneck’s eighteenth birthday.

Crookedneck was diagnosed with granulomatosis, an inflammation of blood vessels in sinuses, kidneys, lungs and throat back in 2014.The disease heavily affects her throat, impacting her ability to breath.

“Just being young and not being able to breathe sucks,” said Crookedneck.

“I’m just really glad Make-A-Wish is giving me a chance to go have fun and just forget about everything.”

Crookedneck was referred to Make-A-Wish by her mother, Candace Stanley. Out of the three choices presented to her daughter for a possible wish, Stanley said the Florida trip won out over New York or meeting Selena Gomez.

“She said ‘we’ll go somewhere where we can all have fun,’” said Stanley.

“I kept telling her it is her wish and to do what she wants,” said Stanley.

Stanley said the family will be flying down to Florida on December 23, staying in the state for seven days.

They are going to fly out on Dec. 23 and stay in Florida for seven days. Stanley said this was a great opportunity because she is a student and had to move to Saskatoon for school, so this will work with her schedule.
