Cold Lake RCMP looking to identify highwayman

The police in Cold Lake are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a shooting suspect.

According to a news release issued by the detachment on Tuesday, a shooting took place on the morning of October 3, along Highway 897 near Frog Lake, Alberta.

The investigation into the incident began after police received a call from the Cold Lake Health Centre, stating that a 33 year old man was being treated for non-life threatening injuries after being shot in the upper body. The shooting took place after the victim stopped his vehicle to talk to another man who was walking along the side of the highway, after which the walker attempted to steal the vehicle, and shot the victim.

The suspect in the shooting is described as 40 to 50 years of age, with a scruffy beard and slicked back hair, in a ponytail. At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a hoodie and a black leather jacket.

Police are asking for anyone who can identify the suspect, and/or has information about this shooting, or may have seen the male walking along highway 897 on October 3, 2016 to call the Cold Lake RCMP at 780-594-3302.
