Kitten rescued from taped-up donut box

A local teen has saved the life of a young kitten.

The teen, 17 year old Lexi Charbonneau, was headed to the Servus Sports Centre just after 12:00 on Tuesday, when she noticed a Tim Hortons donut box moving near the dumpster in the north-side parking lot of the centre.

When she approached the box, she found that it had been sealed shut with clear packing tape. When she managed to get it open, she found a freezing 12-week old black kitten, who she promptly scooped up and brought to the warm interior of her truck. After rushing the kitten home, she phoned her mother, Grace Charbonneau, to let her know what happened.

Grace told 106.1 The Goat that since the kitten was rescued from the donut box, he’s been doing well.

“He’s fine, he’s at my house, he’s just loving it,” said Grace.

“He’s playing, he’s eating well.”

Grace also said the kitten showed signs of previous care, and indicated she thought it may have been stolen before it ended up being taped into the box and left out in the cold.

As for what will happen to the kitten now that he’s safe, Grace is considering a number of options, which depend on who comes forward to take in the animal.

Most of all, she does not want the young animal to be mistreated again.

“I just think it’s cold and calculated to do that to an animal,” said Grace.

“Especially in the winter. I don’t think they (those responsible) have any love in their hearts.”

They are considering naming the cat Timbit.
