Lakeland’s President’s Gala raises over $72,000

The President’s Gala hosted by Lakeland College has raised well over last year’s amount of  $56,000 to fund student bursaries.

Lakeland’s President and CEO Alice Wainwright-Stewart says that the students lead the way the whole night.

“So really having our students there greeting and volunteer to serve the meals added to our success and I think that our community was able to see Lakeland students in action.”

The funds raised will go towards the Support Our Students Bursary, that helps students overcome the financial barriers of a post secondary education. Wainwright-Stewart says that this year over 221 students were helped through the bursary, however 260 applications were received.

“What we’ve been able to do with the student support fund is we’ve been able to award eight students with leadership awards that help them be able to successfully finish their years.”

She adds a huge thank you to the community and supporters of event that made it their most successful one so far, with over 320 people in attendance.
