Producers, industry representatives, students and anyone interested in livestock production are invited to attend Lakeland College’s upcoming Research for the Ranch: Livestock Field Day on Thursday, Oct. 22.
Hosted by Lakeland College Applied Research, the event will take place at the college’s Student-Managed Farm Powered by New Holland on the Vermilion campus, bringing together livestock producers, researchers and industry professionals for a day focused on innovation, education and collaboration.
“Research for the Ranch is an opportunity to connect the work happening at Lakeland with the people who can put that knowledge into practice,” said Francois Paradis, dean of applied research at Lakeland College. “We’re excited to share updates on our projects, share the latest in livestock research, show people around our research facilities and bring together people who are passionate about advancing the livestock industry.”

Attendees will receive updates on several livestock research projects currently underway at the college and learn how the findings could benefit producers and the broader agriculture sector.
Industry experts will also deliver presentations on pasture rejuvenation through drone spraying and the RDAR-funded Alberta pasture quality project being conducted by Blue Rock Animal Nutrition.
Current livestock research projects at Lakeland College include:
- Pasture water quality monitoring in drought-prone regions of eastern Alberta
- Virtual fencing collars for bison
- Nature’s Net Wrap
- Winter swath grazing
Organizers say the event is also designed to encourage networking and knowledge-sharing among producers, researchers, students and industry representatives, creating opportunities for future partnerships and collaboration.
