Kitscoty Fire Department grilling steaks for annual fundraiser

The Kitscoty Fire Department will be throwing steaks on the grill and serving them to the community at their annual Steak Fry fundraiser on Friday.

Kitscoty Fire Department Captain Cody Asselstine says the fundraiser allows the community to give back to the department and says the support it makes him feel like the department is making a difference in their lives.

“People are giving back for when we’re called out to something tragic. They appreciate what we do and want to give back to us and help us to be able to keep doing this going forward.”

The department doesn’t have a particular item they are raising money for this year instead, the money will be banked for a future equipment purchase when needed.

“Being a volunteer fire department, we can’t always guarantee we’re always going to have a large number of people respond to a call. With the funding we have, we’ve been able to get the tools that are able to help us.”

The department was able to buy a heavy rescue vehicle, electric Jaws of Life and cutters last year through the money raised from previous steak fries and other fundraisers. Asselstine says they now have a second set of the jaws of life which will help them if they need to perform a multiple vehicle extracation.

The Steak Fry will be held at the Kitscoty Community Hall on October 18 and starts at 5 p.m. Tickets are $50 and will feature a silent auction and door prizes. Anyone interested in attending can purchase tickets by contacting the Fire Department or Kitscoty Town Office at 780-846-2221.
