Two people are facing drug trafficking charges and weapons-related charges after police conducted a traffic stop within the city.
According to Lloydminster RCMP officials, on Thursday, Mounties conducted a traffic stop, during which they are reported to have observed evidence said to be consistent with offences under the Excise Act. Police arrested both the driver and passenger for having unstamped tobacco, and during a search of the vehicle, they seized a significant amount of cocaine and fentanyl. Police also reported seizing a shotgun that had the serial number defaced, ammunition and an unspecified amount of money.
Sargent Christopher Byford says the seizure demonstrates the local detachment’s ongoing commitment to removing illegal drugs and firearms.
“Our members remain focused on proactive enforcement efforts that enhance public safety,” Byford says.
Police have charged a 33-year-old from Regina with drug trafficking and weapons-related charges. The accused has since been remanded into custody and is set to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court at the beginning of November.
A 20-year-old from Gravelbourg was also arrested and has been remanded into police custody. The accused is scheduled to appear in court in mid-November.
