Lakeland College receives upgrades to Vermilion labs

Lakeland College looks to enhance the student experience with newly renovated environmental sciences
and agricultural sciences lab spaces.

The Academic Link at the Vermilion campus started off the winter 2020 semester with four enhanced labs. In a release, Lakeland College says hundreds of students in environmental sciences and agricultural sciences programs will use the labs throughout the academic year.

The lab upgrades feature specialized equipment for studying samples including plants and soil, the lab also received improved ventilation and updated lighting. The recent upgrades will give students a more effective and comfortable layout for their education, according to the post-secondary.

Dean of the School of Environmental Sciences Mal Dissanayake says the college is dedicated to its students so they have the potential to develop skills to be successful in the industry.

“I’m so pleased with how the labs have been redesigned to ensure that our students can continue to conduct experiential-learning activities in a multi-functional environment designed for their comfort and safety.”

The studies conducted in the labs include wetland classification, water conservation, wildlife biology by environmental sciences students. Agricultural students will use the labs for soil and plant labs.
