Local realtors connecting community through “Project We Care”

Two local realtors are joining the drive to help both kids and seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Amanda Warner and Jackie Grater have recently unveiled Project We Care. The goal is for school-aged kids to write letters, poems or drawings for local seniors at the James W Hemstock, Pioneer and Hearthstone Lodges. Eventually, this could turn into a “pen pal” program for both the kids and the seniors.

Warner says they were trying to come up with an idea to show community togetherness after hearing about the need in the community.

“We had a couple of clients that had mentioned to me that they were in long term care homes in Lloyd, and felt that there were a few residents there that were getting pretty lonely with everything going on, and that’s where the idea kind of sparked in my mind.”

The pair are also giving out ideas to letter writers to inspire them. Some of these concepts include talking about their feelings during the pandemic, coping mechanisms and other positive experiences, both in the past and in the future.

Warner adds that the projects don’t have to be large scale to show that people are thinking of one another.

“With just a little bit of reaching out and connection, and it can just be something small, it will really make a big difference.  It’s a time when I guess we all are struggling a bit, and I think this will really help to make everyone feel more together, even when we’re all apart.”

The deadline for submissions is noon on June 15th, and can be directly sent to Amanda Warner or Jackie Grater’s email.
