LCSD students pitching ideas for high school expansion

Lloydminster Catholic School Division students are asked to help plan the new expansion at Holy Rosary High School.

The division is taking in suggestions from students on how they would like the spaces to be used for programming before they move forward on any designs.

HRHS Principal Vince Orieux and Vice-principal Jeremy Blais along with the LCSD Board of Trustees will guide the project. Blais recently stepped into the role of vice-principal and says it’s been a great experience so far.

“It’s been a real eye-opener with everything that goes into the school building. Mr. Orieux and myself will know everything about the expansion and will be able to speak to it and help all the students as well.”

The division has also made an online survey available to students to ask them what programs they would like to see in the future and what learning spaces would be beneficial to their studies.

Some of the suggestions brought up were having a dedicated space for students interested in pursuing a career as a Youtuber, more spaces for the sciences and arts as well as more parking space and driver’s education courses.

It’s not only high school students who are getting a say in the design, Blais says they’ve also talked to students in their other schools as they will be the ones who will be using the facilities in the future.

“We’re getting a lot of great ideas from the students and a lot of them are excited to come to Holy Rosary and that their voice is being heard in the process.”

Both provincial governments have pledge a total of $10 million funding to add new classrooms to keep up with growing demand at the school.
