Lloydminster Co-op gets naming rights for Lloydminster outdoor pool

The celebration is being planned for June as Lloydminster and District Co-operative have secured the naming rights for the city’s outdoor pool with a $50,000 investment.

When the Co-op Community Outdoor Pool opens in summer, the Lloyd Co-op will enjoy a five-year collaboration with the City of Lloydminster which officials see as allowing for further maintenance and improvement at the aquatic facility.

“As a pool brings people together, the Co-op Community Outdoor Pool embodies what co-ops do. It symbolizes our commitment to the community and our dedication to fostering connections among our members,” said Peter Brown, CEO, Lloydminster & District Co-op. “This naming is a testament to our shared history and the nostalgia that comes with it, reflecting the essence of what makes our Co-op special. We’re honoured to continue serving and supporting our community.”

The pool was built in 1964 and is 20 metres in length and 3 metres in the deep end.

City officials, in expressing their delight at the extended partnership, noted that the Lloydminster & District Co-op recently committed to naming the Co-op Community Arena at the Cenovus Energy Hub. This rink will be completed in late 2025, and become home ice for the Lakeland College Women’s hockey team which won silver in the ACAC this year.

More details on the mid-June opening for the Co-op Community Outdoor Pool will be forthcoming, says the city.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
