Synergy Credit Union is sponsoring the lobby staircases and elevator at the Cenovus Energy Hub events arena with funding of $260,000 for 10 years.
The new facility expected to come online in late 2025 is presently under construction just south of the Gold Horse Casino on the eastern edge of Lloydminster.
Glenn Stang, CEO, says as a cooperative financial institution, it values community involvement and investment with 35 per cent of its pre-tax funds being invested each year.
“I love the name. Cenovus Energy Hub. When I think about it, hockey and curling arenas are the heart of rural Saskatchewan and rural Canada in many ways, especially during winter. It’s a place to go socialize and have a little bit of fun. For Lloydminster, it’s going to be an awesome building,” says Stang.
Meanwhile, the local fundraising effort, Fill The Seats, is at $3.5 million of an $8 million goal for the $98 million project, which has funding support from the city, the federal government and, Saskatchewan for just under $17 million each.
Councillor Jason Whiting in sharing the city’s excitement for having Synergy Credit Union on board notes the community partner’s 80-year involvement in the region’s development.
“Their community support has been crucial to this region’s success and their dedication to the new facility highlights their ongoing commitment to our community,” says Whiting.
The Lloydminster and District Co-operative has made a $300,000 investment for a 10-year naming rights partnership for the Co-op Community Arena to begin in January 2026, and Cenous Energy has invested $5 million in the naming rights for the events centre for five years.
