Strike up the band at the Hub

The City of Lloydminster has greenlit a deal with the Vic Juba Community Theatre (VJCT) to bring concerts to the new Cenovus Energy Hub starting January 1, 2026.

Following a council decision on Monday, Sep. 8, administration has been directed to enter into a three-year agreement, with the option to renew for an additional three-year term.

The details of the three-year agreement are:

  • Joint hosting of three concerts per year
  • $31,000 payment to the VJCT from the City with an extra $23,000 per concert for staff support
  • 20 per cent of net profit goes to VJCT
  • A concert working group to attract artists, settle contracts and deal with marketing and related logistics

The partnership aims to enhance entertainment offerings and bring more top-notch live music performances to play at the 4,500-seat Cenovus Energy Hub which will have its grand opening on Oct. 1.

The proposal was announced by the City in August. The City has also approved the 2026 Concert Budget for the Cenovus Energy Hub at $1,255,878.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
