ES Laird Middle School secures Innovation Grant to boost student well-being

The Lloydminster Public School Division (LPSD) is celebrating a major win for student wellness. ES Laird Middle School has received funding through Saskatchewan’s Teacher Innovation and Support Fund (TISF) to upgrade its student regulation room—a space designed to help learners manage stress, refocus, and succeed.

The grant will allow the school to purchase exercise equipment and alternative seating options, creating an inclusive environment for students who benefit from movement breaks or self-regulation strategies. The goal is to support physical health, enhance emotional well-being, and improve academic focus in a setting that respects diverse learning needs.

“Our vision for the regulation room was always about more than furnishing a space; it was about giving our students agency, choice, and comfort so they can regulate, refocus, and succeed,” said ES Laird Vice Principal Crystal Nicholson. “Thanks to this grant, we’re able to translate that vision into reality.”

LPSD Director of Education Jason Neville praised the initiative, noting that it aligns perfectly with the division’s mission to foster confident, capable learners. “Supporting student well-being and inclusive learning environments is central to our mission,” he said.

Work on the project will begin early in 2026, with completion expected by spring. LPSD anticipates the enhanced regulation room will make a lasting impact on student success and well-being.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
