Over $31K in grants going to support Lloydminster programs

The City of Lloydminster has finalized the distribution of its 2026 Safe and Healthy Communities Grant, approving a total allocation of $31,250 to five groups focused on wellness, youth support, and mental health.

The call for applications opened on October 8 and closed on November 12, resulting in four submissions requesting a combined $29,600. With the full grant budget set at $31,250, Council approved funding recommendations totaling $27,400, leaving a surplus of $3,850.

Approved 2026 grant recipients

Council approved the following allocations for the 2026 funding cycle:

  1. Lloydminster & Area Drug Strategy – $7,200 for Move Your Mood
  2. Lloydminster & Area Drug Strategy – $9,000 for An Influential Generation
  3. Lloydminster Public Library – $6,200 for Lunch at LPL and Space for Mental Health
  4. Lloydminster Native Friendship Centre – $5,000 for the Oskayak Youth Centre After School Program

These initiatives aim to support mental health literacy, youth engagement, and accessible community programming throughout the year.

Surplus funding to support Mental Health Working Group

In line with Section 8.1 of the Safe and Healthy Communities Grant Policy, the City consulted the Community Services Advisory Committee regarding the $3,850 surplus. The committee recommended directing the remaining funds to City-led initiatives, specifically the Mental Health Working Group. Council adopted this recommendation, ensuring the surplus will bolster the City’s ongoing mental health strategy.

The Mental Health Working Group organizes community mental health training and outreach programs, such as free two-day Mental Health First Aid courses designed to help residents recognize and respond to signs of mental health challenges and connect people with appropriate supports.

The City said it will explain how the extra money is used in the 2026 Report to the Community, so residents can easily see where the funds went.
