Local swimmer Jaycie Forbes making a splash on national stage

The Border City Stingrays Artistic Swimming Club is celebrating a major accomplishment as athlete Jaycie Forbes, a Grade 11 student, has qualified to represent Saskatchewan at the National Qualifiers in Quebec this March. A fundraiser is being planned to support the efforts of the talented athlete.

Stingrays coach Janelle Dembicki says the qualification reflects years of dedication and growth. She notes that only a small number of athletes from the club have ever advanced to National Qualifiers, making this moment especially meaningful for both the organization and the Lloydminster community. Dembicki adds that watching Jaycie develop her skills over the years has been an honour.

The club’s executive team echoed that pride, emphasizing the broader impact of Jaycie’s achievement.

“We could not be more proud to see one of our athletes competing at this level,” said Stephanie Munro, club president.

The executive highlighted Jaycie’s strong work ethic, resilience, and commitment to continual improvement—qualities that have earned her a place among Canada’s top young artistic swimmers. They add her success is already inspiring younger members of the club, showing them what is possible through discipline and perseverance.

Jaycie, speaking on her accomplishment says, “Qualifying for Nationals means so much to me. It’s something I’ve worked toward for a long time, and seeing all the effort, sacrifices, and dedication payoff is incredibly rewarding. I’m so grateful for my coaches and teammates who have supported and pushed me every step of the way, and I’m proud to represent Saskatchewan and the Border City Stingrays on the national stage.”

Saskatchewan Artistic Swimming Executive Director Lenore Lindquist also recognized the significance of Jaycie’s accomplishment, noting that qualifying at the Sandra Roberts Provincial Championship demonstrates the athletes’ hard work and the strong support system behind them.

She said the provincial organization is excited to see these Saskatchewan athletes take the stage at National Qualifiers.

Community support – fundraiser

To help support Jaycie’s journey, you’re invited to a steak night fundraiser on February 25, at the Canadian Brewhouse. For tickets and more details, contact Mark or Brenda Forbes at 780‑808‑1603.

As the March competition approaches, the Border City Stingrays community will be cheering loudly for Jaycie as she takes this exciting next step in her athletic career.

Nationals will be held Mar. 15-21 at Desjardins Aquatic Centre in the University Laval PEPS Complex. Over 450 young athletes, ages 13-15 will be attending.
