From Lloydminster to Portugal: Explosion Lloyd qualifies for Team Canada at World Gymnaestrada 2027

A Lloydminster gymnastics team is heading to the world stage.

Explosion Lloyd has officially qualified for the 2027 World Gymnaestrada in Portugal, earning one of just 15 spots on Team Canada from a field of more than 40 groups across the country.

Gymnaestrada is a mix gymnastics, cheerleading and dance.

The local talent will take 27 athletes on the trip to Lisbon. The team will be hosting two barbecue-bake sale fundraisers on Saturday, Aug. 29. You can stop by the New Life Community Church grounds on 50th Avenue or Lloydminster Superstore between 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
