KidSport Lloydminster salutes local support

KidSport Lloydminster is expressing its gratitude for all the local support in its fundraising to keep kids in sports.

The non-profit has supported local kids with some $72,000 in registration fees and equipment in the last year.

“That has helped about 173 registrations of children. And all the money raised that’s raised within KidSport Lloydminster stays in Lloydminster,” says volunteer, Chris Eskelson.

The longtime supporter of the program notes that’s important when people are looking to donate that they know 100 per cent of their effort stays local.

The group was one of the non-profits set up at Mother Teresa’s Local Community Fair.

“We have pretty good support. This donor campaign being one of them. Other companies like Tim Hortons (Smile Cookie), and Harley Owners Group (Toy Run) – that’s some of our main fundraisers that we participate in and help out their events. And in turn, they give back to us,” says Eskelson. “We are very thankful and lucky to have such wonderful support in the community.”

Even with the challenges facing non-profits, Eskelson is upbeat about the local support.

“We are so lucky to be in the community that we are in. We have been blessed to be able to raise the funds that we need every year, to provide opportunities for kids to get onto the field, courts or the ice.”

On average Lloydminster KidSport helps between 170-180 kids each year to participate in sports.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
