Illicit drugs, weapons seized at Mervin home, two women charged

Lloydminster Crime Reduction Team (CRT) and North Battleford RCMP have seized illicit drugs and weapons from a house in Mervin and charged two women.

Police say the operation unfolded on February 25, as the CRT units were in the Turtleford detachment area attempting to arrest individuals wanted on outstanding warrants. With assistance from local Turtleford RCMP officers, investigators went to a home in Mervin, where they found a woman wanted on multiple warrants in both Saskatchewan and Alberta. A second woman inside the home was also arrested.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the house and a vehicle on the property. The search led to the seizure of three firearms, an air gun, ammunition, firearm magazines, 3.5 kilograms of illicit cannabis, 20 grams of methamphetamine, 120 pharmaceutical-style tablets, and 1.2 grams of cocaine.

Both women face multiple charges, including:

  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
  • Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition without a licence
  • Careless use and unsafe storage of firearms
  • Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of cocaine and methamphetamine

One of the women was also arrested on her outstanding warrants. Both appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on February 27.

RCMP say the investigation by the North Battleford and Lloydminster CRT units remains ongoing.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
