New resource centre aims to tackle homelessness and support recovery in Lloydminster

A new beacon of support is coming to the Border City. Lloydminster & Vermilion for Equity (LVE) has officially announced plans for the Nitôtêm Resource Centre, a multi-faceted facility designed to bridge the gap between street life and stability.

The centre marks a significant expansion for LVE, focusing on cultural safety and long-term empowerment for the city’s most vulnerable populations. The location, pending all approvals will be 4920 – 50 Street opposite the Hair Studio.

The required documentation to obtain approval is to go before Lloydminster city administration in the coming weeks.

A bridge to recovery and housing

One of the most critical features of the Nitôtêm Resource Centre is its focus on transitional housing. The top floor of the building will house two specialized residential units:

  • Pre-Treatment Support: Dedicated space for individuals who have completed detox and are awaiting placement in a treatment program
  • Post-Treatment Reintegration: A safe environment for those returning from treatment to stabilize before moving into permanent housing.

Each unit will feature two rooms and provide “wrap-around” services, ensuring residents have the mental health and logistical support needed to maintain their recovery goals.

”Transitional housing is an important step to get individuals off the streets and into permanent housing and employment,” says Tigra-Lee Campbell, Co-Founder and President of LVE.

Essential services and community impact

LVE is quick to clarify that the facility is not a shelter or a safe consumption site. Instead, it is designed as a hub for dignity and skill-building. Planned services include:

By offering employment training and culturally relevant resources, the center aims to reduce poverty and empower individuals from Indigenous and equity-deserving backgrounds to find gainful employment.

Next steps: Summer 2026

LVE is currently in the process of purchasing the building and is prioritizing community engagement. The organization is meeting with surrounding businesses to ensure local voices help shape the center’s daily operations.
If all goes according to plan, the Nitôtêm Resource Centre aims to be fully operational by the Summer of 2026.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
