Onion Lake RCMP lay charges after stolen dirt bike incident

Onion Lake RCMP have charged a man following a disturbance and flight from police earlier this week.

Mounties were called to a residence on Sesame Street in Onion Lake at approximately 12:30 p.m. on March 31, after receiving reports of a disturbance outside the home.

Police say two men approached the residence, with one allegedly striking the door and shouting at the occupants inside. Officers say the men did not enter the residence and later left the area, with one reportedly departing on a dirt bike.

Shortly afterward, police located a dirt bike matching the suspect’s description and attempted a traffic stop. RCMP say the rider failed to stop and turned onto a path inaccessible by patrol vehicles. Officers discontinued the pursuit and continued patrols in the area.

Later that afternoon, RCMP located a dirt bike abandoned in a ditch in Onion Lake. The bike was seized and later confirmed to have been reported stolen out of Mervin.

Following further investigation, RCMP arrested a man at a home in Onion Lake at about 9:30 a.m. on April 1.

The man is charged with:

  • Two counts of failing to comply with a release order
  • One count of flight from a peace officer
  • One count of resisting or obstructing a peace officer
  • One count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Police say the accused was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Loon Lake RCMP.

He appeared in Lloydminster Provincial Court on April 2 and was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to return to court on April 8.
