Three arrested after gun fired from vehicle near Onion Lake: RCMP

Onion Lake RCMP have arrested and charged three men following an incident in which a firearm was discharged from a vehicle earlier this month.

Police say that on April 7 at about 7:10 p.m., officers received a report of a man with a firearm inside a vehicle in Onion Lake. RCMP immediately began searching for the vehicle.

While patrolling, police received a second report that a gun had been fired from a vehicle in the Maidstone RCMP detachment area. No injuries were reported. The vehicle description matched the one officers were already looking for and was last seen on Highway 3 near Frenchman Butte. Members from both the Maidstone and Onion Lake detachments responded.

Shortly afterward, Onion Lake RCMP located the suspect vehicle travelling at high speed on Highway 797 between Onion Lake and Frenchman Butte. Officers made several attempts to stop the vehicle, including initiating a traffic stop, but the driver failed to pull over.

The vehicle later stopped along RC Road in Onion Lake, where police arrested three men. During a search of the vehicle, officers seized a firearm and ammunition.

Following the investigation, the three men are facing a number of charges, including possession of a firearm knowing possession was unauthorized, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of a firearm or ammunition in a motor vehicle. One of the accused also faces additional charges related to flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Court appearances are scheduled to take place in Lloydminster Provincial Court, Saskatchewan.

The first suspect appeared in court on April 15. The second is scheduled for May 4, while the third suspect is expected in court on May 20.

The Wilton Police Service assisted with the investigation. Police remind the public that all firearm‑related complaints are treated as a priority and urge anyone with information to contact their local RCMP detachment.
