The car and truck engines were revving over the lunchtime period as Lloydminster Comprehensive hosted its annual Car and Truck Show in the school’s parking lot.
Forty vehicles were entered by students with support from Jus Kruzin Specialty Vehicle Club, Paradise Garage, Sound Obsessions, Honda, Ulmer, Lloydminster Rescue Squad and community supporters.

Teacher, Victoria Oldershaw has taken in keen interest in supporting the planning of the event for some 13 years with the show dating back to the 1960s.
“It has grown from 11 cars, the first year I did it to now, we have a record 40 students.”
Judges from Jus Kruzin and Paradise Garage do the hard work in testing the students’ knowledge of their vehicles.
“When they are judging, they are focusing more on what the kids know about their car and how they tell their story, more than I just have the most expensive, fanciest car,” explains Oldershaw.
The show is a closed event for Lloyd Comp students filled with fun, food and learning a some students take their next steps in auto-mechanics.
“We have one girl – Skyela, who volunteers at Paradise Garage. She just volunteers her time to get her foot in the door. She just has a love of cars. We know young men are into cars, but we are seeing more and more women which is really cool.”

Ultimately, the students competitive spirit took their eyes on the prizes and trophies available.
