RCMP appeal for information after fatal shooting in downtown Lloydminster

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit is asking the public for help as investigators continue to search for a suspect following a fatal shooting in downtown Lloydminster.

Police say officers were called to reports of shots fired near 50th Avenue and 47th Street in the vicinity of Giant Tiger at approximately 11:09 a.m. on Sept. 21. Firefighters and paramedics also responded and attempted life-saving measures on the victim, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Targeted shooting, suspect at large

RCMP believe the shooting was targeted and have confirmed the suspect remains at large. The investigation has been taken over by the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit, with assistance from the chief coroner.

The shooting prompted a large emergency response in the city’s downtown core, with a heavy police presence and the RCMP police dog unit deployed to assist investigators. The area around 50th Avenue and 47th Street was closed for several hours as officers gathered evidence.

Investigators are now asking anyone who was in the area between 10:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 21 to check for dashcam, security camera or cellphone footage that may assist the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lloydminster RCMP detachment at 780-808-8300. Those within Alberta RCMP jurisdictions can also call 310-RCMP (7267).

Police have not released additional details about the victim or the suspect as the investigation continues.

His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
