MLA Rebecca Schulz says residents want a “fresh perspective” to take Alberta forward.
Schulz brings rural Saskatchewan roots to support her work in an urban centre like Calgary-Shaw. Her comments were shared Monday evening as UCP candidates visited Vermilion to make their case to be leader of the party and premier of the province.
The former children services minister points to the child care agreement for 3.8 billion dollars which was negotiated with the federal government under her watch, as an example of how to deal with the feds to get the best deal for Alberta.
“Whether that’s the Alberta pension plan or taking over tax credits and reforms on that side. Albertans want to see what that would look like and would that be a good deal for us. And there are also areas where we can partner with other provinces who feel the same way as we do; who want a better deal and are willing to come to the table and make that happen.”
She says Albertans are frustrated and in her plan she has a timeframe to achieve her objectives.
“After 10-days here’s what you can expect from a Rebecca Schulz government. Here’s what you can expect in 30-days and here’s what a hundred days will look like. We will not take our foot off the gas on this and I really wanted something that Albertans can measure our steps by.”
On the matter of using the surplus from current energy dollars, Schulz says her plan involves 35 per cent paying down the provincial debt in 10-years, 35 per cent to savings and 30 per cent to address affordability, capital and investment attraction.
