Maidstone RCMP issue dangerous person alert; LPSD schools end hold and secure

The Maidstone RCMP has issued a dangerous person alert in response to shots fired at a home in the RM of Britannia.

The RCMP says the shots were fired from a newer model black Ford Mustang. This car is also believed to be involved in shots being fired at a home in Lloydminster and an alleged fuel theft in the RM of Britannia.

The RCMP is advising people to not approach suspicious people or pick up hitchhikers. If something suspicious is witnessed, call 911, the police or CrimeStoppers. It’s also recommended that people in this area stay in a safe spot for the moment and shelter there if possible.

At this moment, officers do not think this is connected to the ongoing manhunt across the province based on an incident that began on the James Smith Cree Nation.

School response

Some schools went into a hold and secure based on this morning’s news.

That meant schools followed steps such as:

  • Protective measures are put in place at the school to safeguard against threats to school occupants from events occurring near the school.
  • During a Hold and Secure all exterior doors are locked while regular activities in the school continue.
  • Access to, and exit from the school including student dismissal are controlled.

Just before noon that same day, under advisement from the RCMP, the schools exited the hold and secure situation, and outdoor events and recesses went ahead as normal.

This is a breaking news story. More details will follow when they are available.
