Bea Fisher leaving it in Vegas for final New Year’s Eve Gala

The Bea Fisher Foundation is kicking off what it says will be the final New Year’s Eve Gala on Dec. 31 by hosting a Las Vegas-styled festivity at the Lloyd Ex.

The non-profit assists some 130 clients with various developmental challenges to live a fully engaged life.

Kim Crockett, marketing and business development officer at Bea Fisher says the three-year-old gala aims to raise funds for renos at some of their 24-hour care homes including flooring and other upgrades to assist the lives of their clients.

“Lots of flooring, some countertops – and there is always going to be things going on with 60 individuals that live in some sort of 24-houd care facility, there’s is always a need that crops up.”

Crockett explains that the event sponsors had committed for three years to the event. Last year’s celebration which was themed Mardi Gras raised some $85,000 and is being used to do four kitchen upgrades at their care homes.

Event planners are working on things like the Vegas menu, local entertainment during supper, some fundraisers including a luxury trip draw and to ring in the new year will be the band Uptown Entertainment, says Crockett.

“Back by popular demand – each time we have brought them in, people have raved about how much fun they have had. They play a wide range of music. They’re a high energy band – basically our swansong to all these galas.”

The Bea Fisher team is expressing gratitude for all the community support including the list of partnering groups Border City Concrete, Fortune Civil Construction, Redhead Equipment, Astec, Musgrave’s and Cenovus.

Crockett pointed out that some of the sponsors provide job placements for their clients. Tickets will be available from Bea Fisher in the coming weeks.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
