Lloydminster man planning motorcade in support of local healthcare workers

A Lloydminster man is hoping residents will make some noise in appreciation of the city’s healthcare workers.

Hospital security guard Arthur Bishop is organizing a motorcade that will tour around the city on Tuesday, April 7.

The route starts at 10 a.m. at the Civic Centre and moves on to the Dr. Hemstock & Hearthstone Place. It’ll continue to Points West Living then the Dr. Cooke Extended Care Centre, the Pioneer Lodge, Lloydminster Continuing Care Centre, the Jubilee Home and ends at the hospital.

“I figured it would be nice to do a motorcade and drive-by all the nursing homes here and the Lloydminster hospital and honk our horns. I’m inviting the businesses, police, fire trucks, rescue, whoever wants to be involved.”

Bishop says people will be following health guidelines and keep their distance as they will be staying in their vehicles. He encourages residents wanting to get involved to make banners and decorations showing their appreciation.

“I’m sure it’s a trying and frustrating time for so many different people. I know some of the healthcare workers are maybe putting in extra hours. We appreciate them for what they’re going through in this pandemic and making sure everyone’s taken care of.”

Bishop isn’t planning on doing more motorcades in the future at this time.
