Lloydminster sees over $60.5 million in work packages on Inactive Oil And Gas Sites

The Saskatchewan Government is calling the first year of their Accelerated Site Closure Program a success, after strong uptakes in areas like Lloydminster.

The province rolled out the project last year. It was put in place so that Saskatchewan-based oil and gas service companies to clean up and reclaim areas with inactive oil and gas well sites across the province.

The initiative has $400 million to be dispersed under the Federal Government’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan. Of that, $184 Million in work contracts have sent out, with a total of $61 million being paid for already complete work.

This includes 1,385 well abandonments and decommissions, 237 flowline abandonments, 13 facilities, and 2,545 site remediation and reclamation activities.

Lloydminster saw the largest financial support for work packages, with a total of $60,579,289. This was followed by Estavan at $59,513,766, Swift Current, $36,714,611 and Kindersley at $27,863,467.

Ministers like Energy and Resources Minister Bronwyn Eyre and Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources Seamus O’Regan says this supports hardworking people in all aspects of the energy industry, while balancing duty to the environment. The province adds that this has been well recieved by industry as well.

The funding will be given out completely within two years from launch date.
