Parade of Lights and Here Comes Santa Claus partnering for one day Christmas celebration in Lloydminster

Parade of Lights and Here Comes Santa Claus are teaming up to have both their events on the same day.

“We are looking towards building a larger, more festival-style Christmas celebration,” says Mike Sidoryk, executive director with Border City Connects, the new event planner.

Saturday, Dec. 5

On Saturday, Dec. 5, Here Comes Santa will start the day with breakfast at 7:00 a.m. at the Kinsmen Hall. The usual Here Comes Santa traditions will follow, with more details to come on that.

Sidoryk announced that the new title sponsor is Boundary Ford.

“This will be called the Boundary Ford Parade of Lights.”

Carly Pollard with Boundary Ford said, “It’s a great day that we will be creating, that brings out everybody, whether you live in Lloydminster or outside of Lloydminster.”

Sidoryk expressed his thanks to Lloydminster Rescue Squad and Ryan Leblanc and their team for the work they did over the last 12 years with the Parade of Lights.

The Parade of Lights will head out after 5:30 p.m., with the staging area being the Lloyd Ex grounds. Details on the downtown route are being finalized.

Going forward, event planners envisage a full day of family fun for the Lloydminster region with both events being held on the same day.

Here Comes Santa Claus is in its 19th year, while the Parade of Lights is entering its 13th edition.

“We feel we have taken a big step this year with Border City Connects,” says Kurt Price, event planner with Here Comes Santa Claus.

Local businesses are being invited to register their floats for the Boundary Ford Parade of Lights. Registration deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 2. Applications may be obtained by email: paradeoflights@gmail.com.

More details will be shared on social media and the Border Connects website.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
