The Sask NDP is laying the blame for the state of healthcare in Saskatchewan at the feet of the SaskParty government, which has held power for 18 years.
“In Scott Moe’s first 18 months of leadership, there were 86 disruptions for a total of 808 days across the province. In the most recent 18 months, there were 643 disruptions for a total of 3,362 days,” says Sask NDP’s Rural and Remote Health critic, Jared Clarke.
The numbers come from SHA data covering Feb. 2018 to May 2025 obtained by the opposition NDP via a Freedom of Information request.
From Feb. 2018 to July 2019, two prolonged service closures in Turtleford and Battlefords account for nearly half of the days, with 86 service closures totaling 808 days of lost service.
By hospital, the service disruption list shows:
- Meadow Lake Hospital leads with 1,225 days of service lost and 260 disruptions
- Battlefords Union Hospital is 6th on the list with 581 days over 44 disruptions
- Turtleford is 12th with 336 days lost and 14 disruptions
- Lloydminster Hospital is 14th on the list with 303 service days lost due to 56 disruptions
