Bobcats eyeing Sep. 19 season opener

Ahead of the Sep. 19 season opener against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, the Lloydminster Bobcats are gearing up for a robust season with a new barn to entertain local fans.

The AJHL team has a pre-season game away to the Bonnyville Pontiacs on Friday, Sep. 5. They return to the Centennial Civic Centre on Saturday, Sep. 6 to host the Pontiacs. The Civic will cease operations when the new Cenovus Energy Hub swings open its barn doors.

The Cats have no time to rest after going down in its first warm up on Sep. 1, 1-3 against the Kindersley Klippers. That game was played with their rookies, while the Klippers skated their 20-year olds.

Next on the schedule will be a Sep. 12 game with the Battlefords at a venue to be determined, followed by a return game on Sep. 14 in Thunderchild.

The season opener is listed for the Cenovus Energy Hub on Sep. 19.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
