First time at the Hub

Lloydminster’s newest indoor ice and event facility is warming up to welcome its first users.

The Cenovus Energy Hub is opening its doors on Saturday, Sep. 6 marking a major milestone in the project’s development.

Local user groups — including Lloydminster Minor Hockey, Lloydminster Athletics, Lakeland College, and the Lloydminster Skating Club are getting a chance to experience the new space.

The finishing touches are being completed, and the facility is set to become a premier destination for sport and community events in the region, says the city.

The grand opening is set for Oct 1.

In the interim, as 40 Street by the east side Co-op gas bar remains closed, access to the Hub is currently from 36 Street on the south side of the facility, and from 37 Avenue and 41 Street.

Drivers are asked to follow posted signs and detours until 40 Street is reopened.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
