The newly rebranded Lloydminster Fire Rescue is inviting residents to a Fire Prevention Week Open House on Wednesday, October 8, from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Fire Station 2 – 2712 59 Avenue.
This year’s event promises a mix of family-friendly fun and fire safety education, including:
- Fire hose target shooting
- A fire extinguisher prop for older participants
- A colouring contest
- A bouncy house
- Hands-on exploration of fire trucks and emergency response vehicles
This year’s theme is Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home. The focus is on the safe use, storage, and disposal of lithium-ion batteries found in everyday devices like phones, e-bikes, and power tools.
New name
The open house also marks the official launch of the department’s new identity as Lloydminster Fire Rescue, reflecting its expanded role in providing both fire suppression and rescue services. The updated name and badge will be visible on vehicles and uniforms during the event.
Lloydminster fire crews have “a long tradition of protecting this community,” says Mayor Gerald Aalbers. “The new name better reflects the full scope of work provided by the department.”
Fire Chief Bill Heesing adds, “Our role extends well beyond fire prevention. We respond to everything from fires and collisions to hazardous materials and water rescues. We’ve also formalized a medical co-response agreement with Alberta Health Services.”
The City will continue rolling out the refreshed branding across vehicles, uniforms, educational materials, and online platforms in the coming months.
The event is free and open to all ages, with fire safety materials available while supplies last.
