The Lloydminster Learning Council Association (LLCA) continued its 50th anniversary celebrations in service to Lloydminster and area as it held its AGM on Oct. 28 at Lakeland College.
The LLCAÂ was established on September 18, 1975.
AGM
The breakfast meeting was a chance to share its gratitude on the achievement with its community supporters, deliver various reports on the Council’s stewardship over the last year, and network with community partners.
Councillor, Michael Diachuk speaking in the capacity of deputy mayor, saluted the volunteer spirit of the Council which has served the area for five decades.
“Good stuff doesn’t happen unless people step forward and say I want to make a difference. We see that everyday in terms of the growth of the city – the benefits we see; where people get work, and training,” said Diachuk, who noted that the number of lives the Learning Council has touched over 50 years is probably more than the population of Lloydminster.
Growth of Lloydminster
Diachuk pointed out that Lloydminster is growing, and looking at the development in the southwest area of the city, he said developers are talking about 1,300 to 1,500 jobs coming in that area.
“We know that of the demands for those positions will likely be people who are coming as immigrants from other countries and will likely need the support of this organization (the Learning Council).”
The southwest of Lloydminster along 12 Street and 75 Avenue includes a housing development, and a business area that has the site of the new Costco.

Gratitude
President of the Learning Council, Doreen McCaw expressed tremendous pride and gratitude to the Learning Council staff and community partnerships.
“I thank every person who has felt inspired to invest in LLCA’s past, and its future. Your loyal support has created a legacy of memories while simultaneously mobilizing ‘wheels of excitement’ toward the next 50 years.”
Highlights of 2024-25
LLCA delivered robust programming in the midst of evolving community needs, noted Maria Sarcauga in the Executive Director’s report.
“We offered 62 programs that reached more than 22,000 community members across Lloydminster and surrounding area. Our English Language Learning (ELL) program welcomed 162 newcomers from 20 countries, supporting their successful integration into the community.”
The Lloydminster Learning Council officially opened its new office in May at #2-2801 50 Avenue, across from Home Hardware.
