Lakeland MP, Shannon Stubbs is on medical leave forcing her abstention from the vote on the Federal budget.
Stubbs went to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton on Nov. 3 for surgery having worked up until then, according to a statement from her office.
Staff have confirmed, the member of parliament is on approved medical leave following major jaw surgery.
“Her surgical team has ordered several weeks of strict bedrest, no speaking, and limited movement to ensure a safe recovery. She remains deeply grateful to the hospital staff for their care and professionalism,” stated the MP’s office.
The condition arose as Stubbs was born premature at 6½ months, weighing only two pounds. As a consequence, her heart, lungs, and jaw were underdeveloped, stated her office. Over the years, doctors have recommended treating the impacts of this on Shannon’s health.
Stubbs is expected to return once cleared by her doctors, but no timeline has been set. In the meantime, her constituency office remains open to serve residents of Lakeland.
