Vermilion RCMP arrest man on child luring and assault charges, rifles seized

A Vermilion resident is in Wainwright court today, Thursday, Dec. 4, to answer charges connected to a child luring investigation.

On Dec. 2, Vermilion and Kitscoty RCMP, along with the Kitscoty Crime Reduction Unit carried out a search warrant at a Vermilion home. The warrant stemmed from two separate complaints.

The first occurred on Oct. 20, when RCMP received allegations of an adult engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a youth under 18. The second incident happened on Nov. 3, when the same suspect allegedly assaulted a male.

During the search, investigators seized evidence and three rifles.

A 41-year-old man from Vermilion, was charged with:

  • Luring a child
  • Sexual exploitation of a young person
  • Aggravated assault
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (three counts)

The individual was remanded into custody after appearing before a justice of the peace and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Wainwright today.

RCMP are urging the public to avoid spreading rumors or hateful comments online. Acting Detachment Commander Cpl. Brittany Pegg warned that such behavior could lead to criminal charges, including harassment and defamatory libel.
