The Lloydminster area played a key role in Saskatchewan’s first Crown oil and natural gas public offering of the new fiscal year, which generated nearly $12.8 million in total revenue on April 7.
Bids in the Lloydminster region totalled $4,531,088, second only to the Estevan area, highlighting continued industry interest in west‑central Saskatchewan’s established oil‑producing corridor.
Overall, companies bid on 87 parcels across the Lloydminster, Estevan, Kindersley and Swift Current areas, covering a combined 20,724.022 hectares.
The Estevan area led the sale province‑wide with $5,949,771 in bids. The Kindersley area brought in $2,267,478, while the Swift Current area accounted for $87,609.
Some of the top individual bids were tied to land near Lloydminster. Millennium Land Ltd. submitted two identical bids of $1,223,809, the highest offered for leases in the sale. Both bids were for parcels east of St. Walburg, with each lease covering approximately 515 hectares.
The single highest bid overall came from Whispering Hills Resources Ltd., which offered $1,606,426 for an exploration licence on a 6,859.206‑hectare parcel in the Kindersley area, west of Eatonia.
Highest price per hectare
The highest price per hectare was submitted by Tundra Oil & Gas Limited, which bid $12,150 per hectare, or $391,497 total, for a 32.222‑hectare lease east of Lampman in the Estevan area.
Crown leases are issued with five‑year terms and allow companies to drill for and produce oil or natural gas. Exploration licences, which carry terms of two to five years, are typically offered in less developed areas for both exploration and production.
Government officials note that land sale activity is influenced by several factors, including oil and gas prices, land availability, geology, technology and overall market conditions.
The next Saskatchewan Crown oil and gas public offering is scheduled for June 2, 2026.
