Holy Rosary drama students jetting Back to the 80s, April 30

Buckle up for an entertaining blast off Back to the 80s with Holy Rosary drama students on April 30.

The Drama Club has been hard at work putting sets together and learning lines for the Dean O’Carroll written time traveler spoof.

Modern teen Mary Fitzfry gets zapped back in time by a strange professor—and drops straight into a wildly outrageous parade of neon colours, big hair and totally tubular 1980s pop culture.

“She really likes being around her friends, and like every teenage girl, she succumbs to peer pressure. It’s a relatable character,” says Jayden Baria, who plays Mary. The grade 9 student is in her second year with the Drama Club.

Grade 12 cast member, Dane Segberg plays Jeff, the antagonist, whom he describes as a “jock.”

“This is one of my first times actually being on a stage. Last year for our production, I was the narrator.”

The group is raising funds for the ongoing growth of the club. Drama Club director, Chay White says with references to 80s movies like Back to the Future, Breakfast Club, Gremlins and the Goonies.

“It’s a blast to the past with tons of references to everything great about the 80s,” says White.

A musical theatre group will be the opening act for the 80s blast of drama. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Commons.

There is no admission fee. Donations will be accepted and refreshments will be on sale. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.

Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
