Lashburn man charged in Battlefords grandparent scam investigation

A 53-year-old man from the Lashburn has been charged following an investigation into a grandparent scam in the Battlefords region.

According to the Saskatchewan RCMP’s North Battleford General Investigation Section, the charges stem from an investigation that began in January. The individual was arrested in late April and is now facing one count of fraud over $5,000, along with two counts of identity fraud.

The accused made a court appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on May 25 and is scheduled to appear again on June 8.

RCMP say tips from the public played a key role in advancing the investigation and thanked residents for reporting suspicious activity.

The North Battleford Crime Reduction Team and Maidstone RCMP also assisted in the investigation.
