Denem Weber, who heads to the U of S this fall for a four-year bachelor program in Commerce, will relish playing his defensive back role. He reflects on his time with the Holy Rosary Raiders where he contributed to three years of the team’s four-peat as Alberta champions.Â
“I’ve had lots of success in my high school career with Team Alberta and Raiders. Obviously winning makes it more fun.”Â
Denem, who was born in Sherwood Park, started football in grade nine when he came back to Alberta from Manitoba.Â
“My grandpa told me I should pick a sport. The first practice was lots of fun with the adrenaline and drive to get better every day.”Â
Denem has five years of eligibility on the U of S Huskies, and there are about 90 athletes on the team, so he does not expect to suit up in his first year.Â
“U of S went to the cup last year. So, it’s a very highly competitive team. I probably won’t dress in my first year. It will be a development year especially if I’m playing defense,” says Denem who also played wide-receiver with the Raiders.Â
The Lloydminster-talent hopes to make the squad in his second year.Â
Officials with the Lloydminster Catholic School Division and Holy Rosary High School are expressing their elation and pride with the athletes and the graduating class of 2026.Â
