City of Lloydminster urging residents to prepare as heavy weekend rain is forecast

The City of Lloydminster is advising residents to take precautions ahead of steady rainfall expected over the weekend.

Forecasts are calling for periods of rain on both Saturday and Sunday, with up to 25 millimetres possible each day. While widespread issues aren’t expected, officials say simple steps can help protect properties and keep stormwater systems working properly.

Residents are encouraged to clear debris like leaves and grass from nearby catch basins and storm drains, ensure sump pumps are working and have backup power if available, and make sure downspouts are directing water away from foundations.

The City also recommends cleaning out eavestroughs and monitoring areas where water tends to collect, keeping drainage paths clear.

Crews will be monitoring conditions throughout the weekend and are prepared to respond to any localized drainage concerns.

Drivers are also being reminded to use caution during heavy rain and to never drive through flooded roadways, as water depth and road conditions can be difficult to assess.

Residents can report urgent issues outside of regular business hours by calling 780‑872‑5418.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on Wednesday, June 24. This has since been discontinued as at 11:01 a.m. on Friday, June 26.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
