Kitscoty corn maze honours Dolly Parton while raising funds for Lloydminster’s Imagination Library

A corn maze near Kitscoty is celebrating the legacy of country music icon Dolly Parton while supporting a local literacy program that provides free books to children.

The eight-acre attraction is one of only two Dolly Parton Imagination Library-themed corn mazes in Canada this year. The maze, which opened in 2024, features a design dedicated to Parton and her internationally recognized Imagination Library program, which provides free books to children from birth to age five.

The tribute comes at a poignant time following Parton’s recent passing. Organizers say the maze offers an opportunity for families to celebrate her legacy while supporting a cause that was close to her heart.

This weekend, the attraction will host “Dolly Days,” encouraging visitors to dress in Dolly-inspired outfits in exchange for a ticket discount. A portion of ticket sales from the weekend will be donated to the local Imagination Library program operated through the Lloydminster Learning Council.

Organizers say all funds raised will remain in the local community, helping sustain the Lloydminster program, which is currently seeking additional sponsorship to continue providing books to young children.

Visitors can also enjoy a variety of Dolly-themed activities, including sparkling drinks, themed treats, photo opportunities and interactive experiences throughout the maze.

The Lloydminster Imagination Library will be on site Saturday, giving away books and sharing information about the program with families.

According to The MAiZE Inc., 20 farms across North America created Dolly Parton-themed corn mazes this year to celebrate the 31st anniversary of the Imagination Library. Participating locations are donating a portion of proceeds to support local Imagination Library programs and promote early childhood literacy.

Since launching in 1995, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has distributed more than 300 million books to children in several countries, including Canada. Each month, enrolled children receive a free, age-appropriate book delivered directly to their home.

Organizers say they hope the event will not only honour Parton’s legacy but also help ensure the Lloydminster program can continue serving local families for years to come.

Families interested in supporting the initiative can make donations at the maze or online, with all proceeds benefiting the local Lloydminster Imagination Library program.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
