23-year-old Onion Lake man facing firearms and unlawfully-at-large charges in Lloydminster court

A 23-year-old Onion Lake man is facing charges in Lloydminster Provincial Court after being arrested on allegations he was unlawfully at large and involved in a firearms-related incident on Onion Lake Cree Nation.

Onion Lake RCMP say they received a report on Sept. 11 that a man had pointed a firearm at a victim at a home on Onion Lake Cree Nation. Investigators determined the victim had also been threatened and that a window at the residence had been broken. The victim did not report any physical injuries.

Following an investigation, RCMP laid several charges against the 23-year-old man, including break and enter to commit an indictable offence, uttering threats, pointing a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and mischief under $5,000.

Police said investigators also determined the man had been released from a correctional facility on Sept. 10 and was subject to statutory release conditions. On Sept. 11, the Correctional Service of Canada issued a warrant for his arrest.

RCMP continued efforts to locate the suspect and, on Sept. 20, officers conducting proactive patrols in the Onion Lake area stopped a vehicle for a burnt-out headlight. The man was a passenger in the vehicle and was arrested on the outstanding warrants.

The accused made his first appearance in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Sept. 21.

Gerry has lived in Lloydminster since winter 2010. That detail is important as coming from the Caribbean he did not see green grass until May. Now an Alberta/Western Canada resident, you would be hard-pressed to find a stronger proponent of Lloydminster than the news guy that appreciates a healthy dose of rock music and dress code leather. His mantra is focus on one thing and do it well.
