Lloydminster Interval Home raising funds for future women’s shelter

Lloydminster Interval Home Society is looking to build a new women’s shelter in the city.

Currently the Interval Home has two separate facilities, one is an emergency center for women facing trauma and the other is a 2nd stage building for women in transition. Chair of the Funds Committee Lisa Castle says that they are currently operating at capacity and need to expand.

“Right now we have an aging facility that is also a little smaller than we require. So we have a future goal that we would like to replace that shelter at a different location in Lloydminster and be able to expand it.”

The Dreaming Out Loud Children’s Ball is in its third year and is a way for them to raise money to build a facility that will merge their two current buildings into one. Castle says they need to save as much money as possible so the new building can start out in a positive financial situation.

“In order to be responsible with our grant money, responsible with our operations money, responsible with everything we need to make sure that whatever we build is not only sustainable, but that we can afford if there’s a debt that has to be taken to make payments and so on.”

Their current emergency center has 21 beds, seven for women and 14 for children.

As for the event, it will be in the theme of the Disney show Aladdin and will be taking place May 12.
